1929 - Pan American Field, Miami

Pan American Field, Miami

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, while everyone was at Dinner Key watching the Pan American flying boats, Pan Am built their own land airfield in NW Dade County west of NW 42nd Avenue and along the south edge of NW 36 Street. This is a very interesting view to the southeast because it depicts only two runways, one NW-SE and the other NE-SW, and the lack of development between downtown and Pan American Field where some of Miami International Airport eventually came into being. The airfield in this image is only a small part of where Miami International Airport is now. Miami Springs is in the foreground north of 36th Street and mostly undeveloped. Great shot!
