Ray was stationed as a corpsman with the Navy at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in New Hampshire and I was stationed in Baltimore. We arranged to meet in New York City for the weekend and stayed with his relatives in Clifton, NJ. We had a great weekend freezing to death, especially at night while out and about.

Ray would receive transfer orders about six months later to Marine training at Camp LeJeune, NC, so they could assign him as a medical corpsman to a combat unit in Vietnam.
