My co-workers on my last night on the evening shift at the Customer Service Department at Sears & Roebuck, Northside Shopping Center, Miami. I worked there part-time on evenings and weekends from November 1965 until June 1966 when I left to join the Coast Guard. These three fine folks wrote to me while in boot camp and at my first duty station in Baltimore. Our full-time supervisor was Ms. Lois Newfield who I exchanged Christmas cards with for 45 years. Lois Newfield passed away on June 2, 2011 at the age of 82, Rest In Peace, Lois, thank you for everything and for your friendship for 45 years.
Peter M. Cooke was an Army Reserve 1st Lieutenant, and I believe promoted to Captain but I could be wrong, in the Green Berets and a great guy to get military and lady advice from. We stayed in touch by letters while I was in boot camp and at my first assignment in Baltimore. He was attached to Detachment B-9, Company C, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Force, based at the Dade County Armory (now Ballard Armory) at NW 7th Avenue and 28th Street in Miami.
Peggy Symeon lived in North Miami and she married Ron Shimp a year or two later. All of them left for bigger and better things before I returned in the latter part of 1970 and worked there again part-time until January 1973 while going to school. Ron got into full-time management training at Sears and I visited him at the Pompano Beach Sears where he was managing some department a year or two later.
Someday I'll locate more photos of personnel at Sears in the early 1970's.
