Thank you to Lisa Hunadi for posting this great image on Facebook. The "Pacers" name for Palm Springs Junior High was selected during the 1961/1962 school year when I was a 9th grader and an election was held for the student body to pick from one of two names. I thought it was an honest election for 50 years until I read online a year or so ago that it was a close election and the "Pacers" name was second in the votes and selected by those overseeing the election instead of the true election winner. I guess the competing name of "Pussycats" or whatever it was didn't win over those who arbitrarily selected the "Pacers" name?
