Thank you to Leon Estes for contributing this great old image of a Miami Jackson Senior High hangout. The image is from his wife Jerry's Jackson yearbook. Bill Ross is behind the counter in the image. Leon says that before Bill Ross opened the Frosty Freeze he was the store manager for the A&P grocery store on NW 36th Street and 15th Avenue and that his mom used to work there in the cheese department.

Leon says that the Frosty Freeze was across the street from Jackson's football field. Prior to the Frosty Freeze opening Leon says that they used to eat at the Jackson Dinnet.

My dad and grandfather, Jack & Ray, owned Raffield's Barber Shop, that was on the same block. My family would eat there often. As a 5 year old, I remember Bill Ross as a jolly man.

The 2 students at the lunch counter were my friend, Chuck Wills, and Pat Conrad, both of whom have passed away. This photo appeared in the 1954 Jax High Annual. The Ross family were wonderful people.

I went to Jackson Hi in 8th grade, 1960-61......... That was the best year of my life in school, not my senior year....(: I was loving the good life back then.....Ross's was the place to be.....BEFORE school and AFTER school......We had 3 shifts back then.......There was a dance every Friday night and Ross's was where we all went before and after the dances......... I lived 4 blocks from Jackson Hi..... So, I was able to spend a lot of time in Ross's..... Kids today have no clue what a great life we all lived back then.......... Good clean fun.......... (:

I am a native Miamian, born there in 1929. I worked at the "Frosty Freeze" in 1949-50 while my husband was attending the University of Miami under the GI Bill. We had a lot of friends and family that lived in "Allapattah". We moved from Miami in 1960,
up the road a bit to Boca Raton.
It was wonderful growing up in Miami during this time...a way of life gone forever.
