I am using red-colored Photina foliage,backlighted by the afternoon sunshine,as my out of focus background material in an effort to see how this Canon 100mm macro lens renders such foliage. With this composition, I can very clearly and easily see the lens'tendency toward showing a sharp-sided diaphragm shape on out of focus highlights seen against a darker field. This is not a good performance by current standards.
