You are absolutely correct. They are very difficult to photograph, however, in 2004 I got lucky while driving around Ndutu (Serengeti) and came across a few love birds in a death trunk were they were nesting and they were more tolerant of us, although I was using a 600 mm Canon lens with a X2 tele for a total of 1200 mm telefoto in order to get a closer look.
