I felt like a big-game hunter who'd finally spotted the quarry when I saw this lovely large orchid on the crater rim. A real tropical Hawaiian orchid in its native habitat at last!

I was quite disappointed when I later found out that this is a chinese orchid gone feral, and that the three native Hawaiian orchid species are so inconspicuous that the native people never even bothered to give them a name.
