Anyway. This is sometime later and I find myself approaching the next village, Faulconbridge. The
newly painted sign indicates that the official elevation will now be 449 metres. The highway has been
consistently sloping downward to the east but it is sobering to realise that I have been walking
down to this extent. We have now descended 616 metres and are now very much in the "lower Blue
Mountains". I am relieved to note that with the sign re-paints, less importance is being given
to the puerile village slogans. Faulconbridge is not the "heart" or "gateway" OF or TO anything.
That's a relief.
