This snail replaces the black turban snail in the lower zones. Often found protected between or under rocks, this large snail has a smooth, brown-colored shell that contrasts with its bright red flesh when the foot is extended. The smooth brown turban feeds upon large brown algae. Frequently a smaller snail, a pinkish slipper limpet, will be attached on the turban's shell.
