Thank You CO and John. And thanks too for the clue about flourescent lighting. I usually bring this lady out only for a month each year around Christmas. Otherwise she lives in her original box in a dark cupboard. Julie

Most impressive Julie for the soft color capture and the extraordinary amount of detail in this wax. It is amazing it has held this color for 100 years ... keep it away from fluorescents like the new screw-in ones. I'm wondering what a slightly CW rotated toward us version would look like with a very shallow DOF like in macro mode. In focus all of her face and body and one wing and some of the violin nearest her body with the rest out of focus. This would lend depth even in a flat light. I also think that too much more light would hide the subtle color differences in her face hair and arms. John

Thanks Cat for your comments, which are welcome. I did take several shots in portrait form, but preferred the composition of this one. An over-processed copy of this image, for a different purpose, can be seen athttp://www.pbase.com/cslr_challenge/image/91392790

Yes its true wonderful Julie!. I am curious thought why you went for a landscape comp for this. Why not portrait? Also not that you could do anything about it, but the lighting is too soft giving an overall flatness to the photo.
