In the Bulb*

Hi all :-)

Always wanted to try something like this and hope it fits the theme of the challenge. I suppose a better title is in order but anyhow...

Used the CRT monitor as the background and shot in a dark room. Created the background in photoshop, positioned the lamp and manually flicked the switch on and off so you only see the filament glowing and no distracting flare.

PS work: Cloned out a few dust spots on the bulb and crt. Resized then Levels and Unsharpmask applied then framed. That's it, nothing more.

olaf, Thanks so much for posting the link to your photo and the PS techniques you used. I haven't seen it till after I've already posted this one. It's really cool how you got those colors and the title and photo made me :-D Was a bit down when I realized that I've missed the cslr voting for the challenge.

Thanks All :-) I had a list of what I would photography for the challenge. While looking for some extra lights I found this bulb and it reminded me of those cool lightbulb filament photos. Thinking since this is a 3d object and we're looking inside it, it should be on topic. At first I just wanted to do a plain ole against a black background shot but thought that would be too boring. Also wanted to try the trick of where you wire up the bulb so you can get the whole bulb unit in the shot but dropped that at the thought of the risk of getting electrocuted (I was too lazy and tired from the flu). I used the color wheel to pick a good color that could go with the glow from the filament, some kind of blueish purple color. So chose a completely purple color, and just continued to experiment from there and glad I did, this looks so much better than the first few iterations.

Bright idea! You saw my supersaturated comb shots in the cslr-challenge, right? Funny thing is how I got a similar range of colors from a colorless (black comb on a white table) image, just by adding an orange solid color adjustment layer with the blending mode set to difference:http://www.pbase.com/cslr_challenge/image/41502589

Really great colors. Sure it's on topic, you don't want to see outside the picture, you're attracted by the filament of the lamp...

This is very coool Techo. Love the colors and the filament effect. I will leave it to other to judge if it is on topic.

Looks like you have picked up using the 20d very quickly. 8-)

Great looking shot. I really like what you have done with the backround and colours. Its on topic to me as my attention is drawn inside the bulb onto the filament.-alexoki
