Paul, thanks for posting the links to the additional images. I think your favorite is also mine and agree you made a good choice for the challenge topic. The more I look at this, the more I like the lack of symmetry. -Michael
Michael: I have two other versions of this photo, and I'd be very interested in what you think of them, compared to this shot, as I was trying different composition ideas at the time. I didn't think either worked as well for this contest theme, as the lines didn't lead the eye to the focal point. However, this one is my favorite of the three:http://www.pbase.com/paulblock/image/46677468 and this one is another view:http://www.pbase.com/paulblock/image/46677469

This image really does feel like a celebration and has a rather joyous feeling. For me, your exposure is spot on. I have conflicting feelings about the composition...on the one had I'd like to see the architecture and windows symmetrical letting the ribbons of fabric create wild shapes. On the other hand, I like just as is with the lack of symmetry in the sweeping lines of the fabric. -Michael
Thanks. I was especially pleased at how well the 20D did in the fairly low light of the cathedral and how the IS helped me use a slower shutter speed handheld. --Paul
