Music Divine * Fourth Place

Bass Performance Hall
Fort Worth, Texas

When I found out the theme was musical, I knew I would have to go & take some photos of the heralding angels at the Bass Performance Hall. These angels are massive -- spanning between 4 & 5 stories in height.

Just 2 years after the beautiful performance hall was completed, Fort Worth was hit by a massive tornado. It caused great damange to downtown & destroyed a huge skyscraper which is still under repair even after 5 years. The tornado went right over the top of the hall without causing any damage. The volunteers there claim that angels protected the building, so it is fitting that angels adorn the side of the hall.

Fabulous image! It is truly ethereal. These things are so huge that one perspective just doesn't "capture" the effect. But you have done them justice with your composite! -- Bruce

Thank you so much for the comments & kind words, everyone!! I've taken you advice & reduced the length of the trumpet so that it doesn't overlay the angel on the right. I believe this does make a much better image. Thank you again for your input!! -- Jeannie (jburly)

The only way to update the thumbnail in the voting booth is to repost this image. I've copied the original comments:

Excellent idea and composition Jeannie!!! Very well done!!!

I agree with Phil and would add if the rim of the trumpet could be pulled back such that it didn't overlap with the angel's relief (on the right) allowing a bit of tension between the trumpet's rim and the relief - similar to the tension between the trumpet's rim of the middle angel and the top crop.

I'll second that - this is very, very nicely done. Top notch, in fact.
If I *must* find something to criticize, it would be that the horn of the left- hand angel could do with being toned down just a fraction more, as it dominates more than it should on the right hand side.
But really, that's a lovely image. Phil
