Aesop's Warning
Day 125

Seeing this fellow reminded me of Aesop's Fable 'The Grasshopper and the Ant'.

It was one of those beautiful late summer days here today -- warm yet, but with a hint of that 'something' in the air, a sort of crispness, that reminds one that summer doesn't last forever.
This guy actually gave me a start as I came stalking around the standing seed heads of Queen Anne's Lace.

When the blue sky opened up earlier today I couldn't help myself: http://www.pbase.com/corvidae/image/33599152
It was a kind of stormy periwinkle color -- just off the normal 'sky blue'.

For an update on my project from Monday you can go here: http://www.pbase.com/corvidae/image/33599182
It's not varnished in the picture, but I've just now finished putting on the first coat.

I really liked this Pincushion Flower, but in the end I was bugged by the flower just to the left. I felt it unbalanced the picture.
Now, I know I could Photoshop it out, but today the grasshopper holds sway, and that spells L-A-Z-Y.

Let the ants do it!

Oh, I almost forgot about Tash's shadow: http://www.pbase.com/image/33599375
(sorry -- couldn't resist one more)

He's a spledid specimen of intelligent nature, isn't he? Built for endurance - the kind of creature that inspires military design of body armour...

Super macro. Great detail. I like grasshoppers but hate it when they jump on me.

Like the invastion of the locusts. Excellent, Carmen.

Yes, please keep your grasshopper out of my garden. Actually this guy is so big I wouldn't have any flowers left! Fantastic macro.

Lot's of nice photos today! Ok, I might be having a pipe dream, but it seems I remember my dad telling me something about a grasshopper spitting tobacco, if you picked it up, or touched it some such way. Does this make sense to anyone?? I was probably only 4 or 5, so this could be a figment of my imagination! LOL
