for a long time after coming down from Cambridge in 1980 I had dreams about the place, wandering from St John's up to St Edmund's. It was always dark, or twilight - the Twilight of the Gods - I never knew why, but it was a kindly, warm darkness. Fitzgerald wrote a novel "Tender is the Night", and this describes perfectly the sense of that dark and it is the same dark you have captured in your photos and so well in this one. Broad daylight is so vulgar. You have rediscovered the secret of Solar Eclipse light of the Old Masters, but in photography.
