Because this amanita displays a basically white cap with a lemony-yellow disc, we may be tempted to call it an Amanita citrina. But unlike that lovely fruiting body, which also appears frequently from July through September or so, Amanita albocreata has a strongly striate margin with a slightly cotton-like raggedy edge. (If you examine the LARGE or ORIGINAL size photo, you will be able to see these features clearly). Also, unlike Amanita citrina, A. albocreata has no annulus (ring). The two amanitas differ also with respect to the stipe base. Neither Amanita should be eaten by the pothunter.
