Cow? Yak?

We were driving through a very rural area yesterday and saw this interesting animal of unknown identiy at a farm.
No one was around when we pulled into the driveway.
The reason I was reluctant to get out of the car and take more shots, is shown below -
Yikes !

The cow is of the Highland Cattle breed, from Scotland. They are more commonly red, but they come in this color too. The dog is a boxer mix. I'd have stayed in the car too!

Aha .. so u managed to finally photgraph a New ET species..:)
Yakity Yak....From the regal poise and serious looks seems to be from the lineage of Thor.. the Greek God...
Nice Photo Cliff.. sure does grab ones attention!

I don't think it's a real cow. I think the dog uses it to lure curious passersby a little closer.

You do have some scary animals here :)

Nice shot of the cow. What kind of bovine is it?
Guest 25-Mar-2005 08:57

Cool YakCow, but I'd been real concerned about the CanineAttackDog.

I've never seen one like this. Although, it's mostly Angus around here. Great capture. Hope somebody ids it. People have dogs because of people like us. :)

Very good composition, color and detail.

This cow is defintely posing; head raised to remove any hint of a double chin. "Do you think this is my good side?"

What a great shot of this animal. Probably a long haired something or other kind of cow. What ever, it makes a great subject. I really like the clarity , colors and the composition. Very nicely done.

ROFL that dog picture is pretty funny. I love how you photographed " it " it, being what looks like a cow. Great job, very nice background on that image too.

Wonderful shots. I like this one expecially because he looks like he has a bit of attitude. The colours and details you picked up are incredible.

Oh, I do love this cow. If you did this in oil you could make a fortune at a museum.
Guest 21-Mar-2005 18:57
LOL! Funny shots! That cow is certainly well endowed in the horn department.

Uh-oh...you've stumbled on the very rare longhorn yak that the government has been working on. Watch out for black helicopters circling your house and don't be surprised if you get a knock at your door ;-)
Robin Reid21-Mar-2005 16:38
Doggone it ;-)...glad you didn't let the cur stop you from getting the "cow" or whatever it is. Excellent shot.
