June 7 2005:
The Tuesday Revelation

So well done Cheryl! It is indeed my guitar, my very lonely guitar!

I bought this ‘Gallo’ guitar about 30 years ago for either £5 or £15, I cannot quite remember. I was told at the time it came from Kenya (or perhaps South Africa), but a Google search suggests Dutch origin. In fact, John Lennon had a Gallo when he first bumped into Paul McCartney in the late fifties.

My total lack of ability to grasp anything musical was quickly realised at the evening classes that followed. I did a murderous version of ‘Carolina on my Mind’, which is sadly no longer available…

A beautiful guitar. I love your framing. I think we all went through that phase where we tried to learn to play. My song was "House of the Rising Sun.":)

For some reason it doesn't look like it was made in Africa!
And to think I thought it was an ashtray...

Great story Ray. I keep trying different types of classes.... italian; drawing and painting; psychology; stained glass... I must be good at something :-)

You mean I was finally right? Yay!!
It's beautiful.

I have a nice guitar from the 70's, I never learned how to play it…it's still on my list of things to do.

I not only saw faces in this.. I saw a woman's face and her long sketch of a body when I looked at the thumbnail.. very cool

Great shot Ray, and a stunning instrument!
I had a phase on guitar as well but it certainly wasn't my strong point!

Ahh so that's what it is. Very beautiful it is too. I love the composition and the contrast with the green background.

Oooh - I can see faces in it!

I'm not sure it whether it should be played, or hung from a wall! Nice guitar though - had me totally flummoxed... :)

Looks better in Green. Very interesting piece of musical instrument...Looks like it travelled from the Psychidelic Hippy days of the 70s. ;) If only it can tell us stories of days gone by.
