This is the old lock keepers cottage on the Wey Navigation. Much of the River Wey was either widened or re-aligned in centuries gone by so it could handle waterborne traffic between London and the south coast of England. This also involved building a two mile stretch of canal joining the Rivers Wey and Arun.
Of course, first the railways, and then the roads took freight away from such rivers, and now it is now just used for pleasure, unless of course you happen to be a bird or fish!
