January 30 2004:
Still Needed

I know what Ian's Ellie's reaction to this is going to be, so don't tell me. But you are looking at someone who still uses Kodachrome, still uses tape cassettes and hasn't got a DVD yet! So today, I put some Kodachrome in the spotlight along with some of my Supra 400 film. I use slide film for my aviation photography; my friends take transparencies too and we often get together for a slide night, showing what we saw last year or even 30 years ago, so I feel a bit nervous about switching entirely! I got the Supra last autumn, and I will try and use it up before long on a dedicated shoot; its good quality film, but I have to wait a while before I can see where my shots went wrong, and then its too late!
Today, I experimented with the Channel Mixer for the first time and got this rather whacky colour. Quite chuffed at the result really!

Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel
1/500s f/5.6 at 90.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

The channel mixer can be quite a useful tool. I don't know what "chuffed" means, but I like the result you got!

This is/was my dad's first choice of film....brings me back :P I like the channel mixing, kinda makes it like some secret experiment that no one knows about. You know the kind in the dark rooms with wierd lighting that no one knows where it is.

Ray, it looks like your film's been fogged or maybe expired! Neat PS mixing.

Angela you're a right. Ray you're making me nostalgic for film. I think I'll take out my old Minolta x370 (considering the Retina ain't working) and shoot with some film in Central Park maybe?

Having traded in my Nikon for my Uzi, I do sometimes feel a touch of nostalgia..(for a millisecond or two).

What's all that white funky stuff at the top? ? ?? It almost reminds me of the corrosion that occurs when a battery leaks!
I still use slide film . . it's the best for underwater & my father-in-law always told me the resolution is the BEST with transparencies!

She means she'd trade it in for the new D70...LoL.

I like the colors Ray...could you have produced this effect with film? With the right filter maybe?

That's right, Jeanne!! You put that naughty Nikon in its place!! (lol I like that! Naughty Nikon. :oD ) -- angela :)

I was going to say "This is so last century" but Ellie beat me to it!! Had to smile when I saw your comment on Alex's PotD yesterday quoting Ellie's saying, that child is so influential! Interesting shot Ray, looks like this image has had some cross processing like E6 into C41, nice effect whatever!
Guest 30-Jan-2004 20:43
Clarification....I meant to say I WOULD trade my Nikon for the Canon, if the Nikon continues to disobey it's mommy! LOL
Guest 30-Jan-2004 20:11
HEY! If I weren't so mad at my Nikon, I'd take offense! LOL! And nice singing, Angela. Today, Ray, I's trade my D100 for a 10D....Buyer's regret?? We'll see what I can come up with today!
