December 14 2003:
Pointing the Finger

Plaistow, West Sussex

There are still a few of this iron finger posts left in Britain. Over the last forty years or so, so many have been replaced by flat metal ones, or sometimes new wooden finger posts. In the days when my dad had a Morris Minor, there was one at virtually every junction in the countryside, so it brought back memories to see this one today.

This is outstanding! I love the rustic, old fashioned look. Very, very nice.

This is simply WONDERFUL, Ray! The sepia finish is the perfect topping for this. Very creatively done. :)

Beautiful image Ray! I'm glad the sign brings back memories of touring days in your father's Minor...and thank you for your comments on my PaD for Dec.11...I'm glad it could bring back memories for you! The sign here definitly fits the mood of the Minor! Wonderful shot- the sepia tone is perfect

Well, I hadn't heard of two of them. Added to which there is no such place as Loxw. However, I took my first ever photo at Loxwood when I was about six years old!

You're right, you don't see many of these anymore! Strangely, I photographed a three way sign today, but they all pointed to "public footpath"... very useful!! The other strange thing is this sign can't be more than 30 miles from my house and yet I've nebvver heard of any of those places except Gulidford and Hazelmere!

Appears as if something out of a storybook to me. Love the sepia effect..adds to the story of what is quickly becoming extinct. Really like the image..
