02Feb06 Carnations - 9991

Connecticut

Photo a Day, Day 309...I'm starting the b/w February challenge a day late as I didn't know about it until I visited David Clunas' gallery http://www.pbase.com/davidclunas. If you want to see more of who is doing February in B/W visit Gary's site: http://www.pbase.com/digitalgee/feb2006. Should be interesting considering I haven't done much b/w thus far which is partially why it is a bit appealing as well.

The grocery store had carnations on sale today - $3 for a bunch so picked these up. When I brought them in and sat them on the counter I came up with idea of shooting them before they were ever in the vase.

ACR, crop, channel mixer to convert to b/w, touch of levels, Resize, Frame, Sharpen: PhotoshopCS2

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
1/200s f/7.1 at 100.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

It's amazing how many beautiful shades of b&w there are in that one bunch of carnations ... :)

I like this. You can really see the texture of the flowers.

Wonderful in b&w! The petals look so delicate!

Quite like this, you've managed to keep them looking clean and fresh, something I always find hard to do in b&w.

excellent b+w & it wont alter their perfume either :>)

An unusual viewpoint, and nice B&W conversion.

Beautiful composition, lighting, and tones.

Excellent! Good tones, and the composition is made more compelling by the unusual position of the flowers.
