Thanks guys. The over sharpened/over cooked look is by design.
The regular image is boring. This one may be also, but it does have a kind of look to it.

Looks a bit over-sharpened for me as well, but even despite this - very strong and nice portrait.

Changed it out, gritted it up some.
Where I'm working, we can't have beards.
I hate that rule, but every now and then I let it go for a week or two.

Agree with Daniel, this is very interesting and creative shot ... but I like the previous one much better. The colored version - for me - looked more 'expressive'

I don't, davev: though I like b&w-photography a lot, in an image with *fire* in it, I need to see the reds and the yellows that give the picture something the black here can't compete with. I like the *positive* version (pun intended) much better. ~ db.
