This is the adding machine that my Grandfather used in his lumber yard in NYC for several decades. I remember watching him use it back in the 1960's.

Thanks for sharing your story. I really like the lighting of the shot. Makes those textures and shadows pop.

Thanks Sharon and Shu for your comments. My thoughts for this shot were certainly inspired by some of the wonderful still life's I've seen in past challenges - several in the last challenge. Here, I wanted to accentuate the keys with highlights and shadows, and also bring out some texture overall.

i love sharon's thoughtful comment. she notices elements in images that others may often miss! (i speak for myself here). these long shadows certainly add a great deal to the appeal of this image, imo. whereas others may be looking at the technical aspect of an image, sharon points out many creative elements that certainly deserve attention. there is a world of photographic innovation found online and in books and magazines these days that adds excitment to photography and may encourage more people to explore new possibilities in the creation of unique images. shu

The light on this with the long key shadows is wonderful, Peter. I like the family connection as well. Good work! ~Sharon
