2nd Place "immersed" by Olaf.dk

I used a 13 mm extension ring to be able to focus closely enough. Then cropped the image. The wider view can be seen here

I re-shot this, but was unsure whether it was better.

This, the originally posted version with the bubbles, is back in Eligible and take 2 is back in Pending. Sorry for being so indecisive about it. My conclusion is that the bubbles do add "life" and depth to the image.

I prefer take two myself, but maybe not....I like No 1 a lot, yellow at bottom seem different....it is not to me automatic that no 2 is better. I fully realize that this opinion is of no help....but, it is honest....and I think honest uncertainty is...honest....lol

Fabulous Olaf!

Marvelous color and interest. The layering of colors is very nice. Like Pops, I prefer the less bubbles. I must go back as far as shu...my elementary school had marble circles painted on the cement and we played at recess. We all had small leather bags in which we carried our preciously collected marbles. No one liked to play "keepsies" since you'd lose your marbles if you lost the game. -Michael

Olaf, IMO fewer bubble are better. Love the marbles and love the shot.

Thank you guys! Yes, I would call them glass marbles. From your comments, I assume you know them. These are about 15 mm or 9/16 of an inch in diameter.

Pops, no need to put away your marbles! I'd love to see what you had in mind.

in my day they were called "aggies" slang for agate. i go back farther then all you boys put together! LOL

AND, olaf, what a great idea! it's beautiful w all the colorful detail in each "marble!"

Gee, Wapakeneta, Mr. Science. Now I have to put my marbles away. Olaf, this is nice.

Just a beautiful image. And you kept it all in focus to boot. Congrats!

This is great Olaf - I love the palette and the sense that these balls or color and light are in motion.

Oh, and I prefer this tighter crop, FWIW ;)

And Bob... in my mid-west up-bringing, they were called cat-eyes... I wonder if that term is in any way tied to your "alleys" ?

That is really good Olaf. I have the 'bubble' problem when I try using water... I guess they must be absolutely clean and a good wetting agent (like... tepol, to lower the water surface-tension), needs to be used?

Are these 'marbles'.... takes me back to my childhood days... we called them "alleys" (don't know where that term comes from) but only boys from 'private schools' called them 'marbles' ... lol
