Waterford, in County Waterford.
Reginald’s Tower. The Vikings built a fort on this site in 914, but the stone tower was built by the
Anglo-Normans in 1185. It was the first Irish building to use mortar in its 3m thich walls, made
from a concoction of blood, lime, fur and mud. It is the oldest civic urban building in Ireland,
and the oldest monument to retain its Viking name.
