The Vasari Corridor (Corridoio Vasariano) is an elevated enclosed passageway, which connects
the Palazzo Vecchio with the Uffizi, the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Pitti on the south side
of the river Arno. It was built in 1564 by Cosimo I de'Medici, to enable the Grand Duke to
move freely between the government palace and his residence, when, like most monarchs of the
period, he felt insecure in public.
