We disembarked in Trondheim, spending the night in a hotel before boarding the train for Oslo the
following morning, giving us ample time to wander around the town.
Trondheim dates back to around 997, when the Viking King Olav Tryggvason decreed that there should
be a town at the mouth of the Nidelva river. It was the capital of Norway during the Viking Age
until 1217. Most of the medieval city was destroyed by fire and war in the 17th century.
Old wooden warehouses line both sides of the Nidelva.
(I just took my Panny P&S on this occasion, as the weather wasn’t promising at the start of the
day, and I didn’t want to lug around a heavy bag in the rain!)
