Torghatten

Torghatten – this strange island with a natural hole running through it, is also the subject of
legend. One evening, Hestmannen caught sight of Lekamøya and the seven sisters bathing naked in
the fjord. Inflamed with desire for Lekamøya, he mounted his horse and galloped to steal her
away at midnight. The seven sisters fled until they could run no more and dropped to the ground.
Lekamøya kept running south, and as dawn approached, Hestmannen realized he could not catch her,
so he shot an arrow at her. The king of Sømna saw this and threw his hat in the path of the arrow.
The arrow went through the hat, which fell to the ground, creating Torghatten. At that moment,
the sun rose and everything turned to stone…

Interesting to find out the local story behind the formation.

Neat legend, and such a unique landmark.

This reminds me of a youtube video I saw where a stunt pilot flew through a hole in a mountain like this. He turned sideways going through. LindaS
