9 Dressed in lace

Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne has more decorative cast iron than any other city in the world.
By the 1880s it symbolised the city's brash image virtually every new balcony and verandah was draped in an 'iron petticoat'.

Beautiufl iron work and the processing gives it a real aged feel!

I've always considered Melbourne my favorite city - greatly due to this cast iron work and the European architecture. Great shot!

A great affect and so typical of inner city residences of the Victorian era.

I think the camel is stuck there, someone should go and check him out. great "historical" finish.

Het lijkt heel romantisch ...

Ooh, I like the low-contrast faded photo feel - very appropriate for the shot :o)

Lovely image, and interesting text, thanks for sharing. The camel and mountain (?) add quite a bit, and when I first looked at it, i thought they was out the window, and it was some kind of illusion.

I agree with the rest, taking us back to the 'twenties' exquisite railings.
Love it.

I really like the composition. I like the two little wall hangings as well. Looks like an old photograph. Nice processing.

I would almost think of New Orleans when I see this, but the camel is a dead give-away for another land far, far away.
Love the old world effect here Mieke!
