This enormous clock is one of several preserved from the old Gare d'Orsay ca. 1900.
The Gare d'Orsay was originally a rail station built in the center of Paris
and used for arriving and departing trains for the Paris Exhibition of 1900.

Destined for demolition in the late 70's, the Gare d'Orsay was rescued and transformed into the magnificent Musee d'Orsayin the 1980's.
Since then it has housed arguable the world's finest collection of Impressionist and Post- Impressionist art.
The huge rail station clocks are preserved in situ.
This one is seen from the interior of the Musee d'Orsay in the central area where trains arrived and departed.
