I think it is an interesting idea and I also appreciate your experimentation. The problem I'm having is the leaves are just so in focus my eyes can't help but go there instead of the vehicle.

Gary, I read your explanation of the effect you were going for and I think the photo would work much better if the car was more, but not totally in focus for the shot. One thing you can try with experimental shots is to bracket the hell out of it. Take 6 or 7 different shots at different apeture or shutter speed settings and see how they come out. Then you can pick the one that gives you the best effect. However, I will echo Rod, you definitely get points for thinking outside the box.

Thank you Rod. My wife (who has an artistic but not photographic bent) whose opinion I often seek on my shots, said it was awful and didn't work at all.

But this time I relied on my own judgement. I wanted something that suggested vehicle but wasn't a straight shot of one - god knows I've got plenty of those!

So I went for an out of focus shot. I wish the leaves related in some way to the theme - but they aren't. I thought later that it might have worked better with a model car in sharp focus where the leaves are - maybe I'll try that if I get the chance.

My personal approach to the assignments (where possible) is to imagine I've been commissioned by a magazine to come up with a photo that can be used to illustrate an article they are going to print and to shoot something with that in mind.

Judging by the lack of comments on this one, looks like my wife was right! ;-)

This is quite a daring shot. I'm not sure it works, but I'd rather see a shot that pushes the boundaries than a "safe" shot. Can you tell us something about your intent?
