Purple Thorn moth - Selenia tetralunaria!

Dave rescues this little fella from the dustbin, but it flew to a dense bush and was almost imossible to photograph!

No idea why they call this one a purple thorn, he has no purple anywhere!
What is interesting is that they never close their wings: they hold them open like crinkled leaves!

I think Sheila's got it, but I've never heard of a purple thorn bush! Nice shot.

Nicely done. The way they blend with the background is amazing.

Fantastic camouflage. Maybe purple thorn is the name of the bush they like when they are caterpillars.
