My first time using the D70 for sports. I'm a bit rusty on the shutter release. It's very hard to catch the ball in these shots. (Moderate crop, I've forgotten what percent. Sorry, more like 45% of the original image.)

Next time I'll remember the manual and the gray card to get a custom white balance. This is the highest shutter speed I've gotten here and at less than iso1600.

I just realized you got a new lens...with the straight 2.8 you should be able to put an extender on it and photograph birds!!

I'm looking at the photo on a digital display and I don't see noise...great photo.

Great capture of the intensity of the moment. And remember, high ISO noise can also be considered film grain...

cool shot Mark, the noise is not too bad for that iso, i have but have yet to use a noise supression curve designed for the D2H, it is supposed to work with the D100/70 as well, let me know i can mail it over

Both good shots and one can see how low grain the D70 has when light condition are good. On night shots with much black portions it gets more critical at this high ISO rate.
Getting the ball in sports shots needs some parctice, the trick is to press once the hand starts moving, if you wait to see the ball on the visor, it's too late. Also try shooting in series to do that, the D70 shoots nice series of up to 3 or 4 per second.

I love the bright colors and intense faces of this one, but the B&W is my favorite. So crisp and the game tension between the players stands out so strongly.
