Ant Milking an Aphid 2010

Some Ants will farm Aphids in a symbiotic relationship. Those Ants then "milk" the Aphids with their antennae to get honeydew.

While my mom & I were waiting for our hamburgers at an outdoor cafe, I noticed a colorful flower in the shade. At a closer look, I wished I had extension tubes or an extender with me. My mom's comment - without knowing what I had found - was "More bugs, huh?" Yes, it was a red ant. The aphid was also a pin point with the naked eye. Yuck! Glad this plant was 30 miles from home. It's not a scene that any flower grower wishes to encounter close to home.
