An epoxy soaking tray was fashioned from aluminum channel for the plywood edges. It travels far up into the dry wood and when cured is rock hard and waterproof. Veneer inlay was made using a dremel tool and careful sanding of the insert. Original veneer had split and rotted here and this seemed the only solution given my limited skill with wood.
