9th - Floral

Cheltenham, Glos.

Bit of a Plain Jane, I'm afraid. The evenings are definitely lengthening, and what with the lovely bit of sun we had today, the garden was almost looking nice!! I noticed these guys peeking over a planter and thought they'd do for a bit of badly-needed colour and vitality in this unusually drab part of the year

I added a bit of an Orton effect to this to bring out the richness of the delicate colours (is that a contradiction in terms??) and the softness of the evening light. I'm not sure about the focus though - I wanted a shallow DoF centred on the flowers (the front two are in focus at f/1.8) but I think I may have chosen the wrong focus point. Looking at it now, my instinct tells me that I should have increased the DoF and focused on the middle flower....pity my instinct was asleep a couple of hours ago when I took the photo!! Thoughts? CC?

Like the softness; Orton works well with flowers

Not so much as a sprig of grass popping up here. Soon, I hope, soon. This is beautiful!

These are indeed a welcome sign of spring and you've captured them just fine.

I'm jealous to see that you have bloomin' flowers! We're up to our thighballs in snow! In fact, snow caused my flight outta town to be cancelled earlier today.........

There doing very well. I often wonder like Phil if its worth cleaning the shot up. But most the time I like em just like this

Pah! to Phil and his "gardening" lol It's a lovely forerunner to Spring!

Mmmm - the leafy grassy bits in front of and behind the right-hand pow-pow are a bit of a problem... without them I think the focus and DoF would be just grand as they are :o) Oh, and there's the dead bit, could've pulled that off? Think it's called 'gardening' - or something like that. lol

This works very well, I love the DoF moving from the right to the left, enhancing the delicacy feling! Lucky you to have already some flowers in the garden! V.

Beautiful, Doug. Sure needing these today in Nashville! It's cold, dreary, slushy/snowy and generally just a gray day.
