(single released 1979, and included on Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's 1980 debut eponymous album)
More daft music from the early 80s - OMD were part of the Liverpool New Wave and contemporaries of Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen to name but two, but were always much more 'accessible' and poppy in their sound. Not that that made their music any less danceable or buy-able!! This was OMD's first single, and despite it never being a chart hit is perhaps their most famous and recognisable song...cool lyrics too (considering it was written in the late 70s):
Our one source of energy
The ultimate discovery
Electric blue for me
Nevermore to be free
Electricity, nuclear and H.E.P.
Carbon fuels from the sea
Wasted electricity
Our one source of energy
Electricity
All we need to live today
A gift for man to throw away
The chance to change has nearly gone
The alternative is only one
The final source of energy
Solar electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity

My fuseboard has been Orton-ed!!! Why is it that the utilities always put fuseboards and stopcocks and meters in the most inaccessible places, so that after a powercut I have to balance precariously in the dark, grip the torch firmly in my teeth, balance on one leg and stretch across a void to try and flick the leccie back on?
