8th - "The Great Curve"

Cheltenham, Glos

(from Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain In Light)

Funky bass from Tina Weymouth (God! how I loved her!!) and mad guitar work by Adrian Belew...what a combination :o)

I was digging around in the kitchen last night for the colander to strain the penne* when several things collided at once - the TITTC from a few weeks' ago (the Abstract Kitchen Utensil one), my trusty SB600 flash, and my musical taste! I'd wanted to do the colander shot for the TITTC but was beaten to it; I spied the Speedlight lurking by the fruitbowl, and as luck would have it, I'd just teed up 'Remain In Light' to play while I had my dinner...I think it's called a Eureka! moment :o)

So here we have it, off-camera Speedlight placed underneath the upturned colander, wide open macro lens focused at the middle line of drain holes, and subdued ambient lighting from the kitchen. I'm rather pleased with the bokeh on this - I hadn't expected that, so that's a nice bonus :o). The only post-processing done was a gentle Curve** and a resize for the web

*pasta with a light tomato & basil sauce and a crunchy green salad...yum!
** hahahahahaaaaaa, sorry excuse the pun :o)))

They look like graviting electrons around the nucleus of .... something! :) Lovely, I can't listen to talking heads, got Dream in Goa - Another Brick in the Wall, full blast in my earphones, just can't stop it. :)

There I was gobsmacked the low-key sci-fi otherworldly kitchen abstractness of it all and then you go and bring us crashing down to earth with that awful 'curve' pun! :o)

Very inventive shot...can you imagine how difficult it would be to work in a kitchen without a colander ??? :))

Great result Doug, it looks like the surface of an alien planet. "V"
Superb choice of song too. Adrian Belew also did some amazing guitar work for Frank Zappa.
