4th - "Marquee Moon"

Cheltenham, Glos

(from eponymous 1977 album by Television)

I think this month's going to be four weeks of superlatives...

And dammit! I've broken my self-imposed 'use only prime lenses' rule again!! I'll have to stop looking at the moon...

If there was one song which marked my rite of passage into the world of 'being grown up' it was this one. I remember standing behind one of the 6th Formers in the queue one lunchtime (must have been Easter '77) - he was one of those kids everyone who wanted to be cool looked up to and aspired to be...and there he was, with a plate of spag bol in one hand, a bowl of apple crumble & custard in the other, and this album tucked under his arm. "Whatcha got there?" I mumbled stupidly; "Only the best album since Ziggy Stardust!!" he replied and sauntered off to the Cool Table to sit with his cool mates.

But he was dead right - bewitching chords and riffs, surreal lyrics and a hypnotic guitar break went against everything else I was listening to then (punk stuff, as well as my brothers' Pink Floyd LPs!!) but this was just so different and so good, it demanded to be played again and again and again...

Awoooooooooo :o) I have a solution for you - order yourself a 400mm prime, if you add it to the online-shopping you'll hardly even notice you've done it :o)

Amazing track - you're introducing me to all sorts of new things,
glad you hung around with the 'cool' kids - or tried anyway ...
