7th - "A Pillow of Winds"

near Shelfield, Warks. view map

(from the 1971 album Meddle)

"And I rise, like a bird,
In the haze, when the first rays
Touch the sky"

Seems birds, Pink Floyd and me are getting it on this month! I was driving through the darkening Warwickshire countryside when I spotted the break in the clouds. I framed up with "Breathe" in mind, but just as I was taking the pic, the crows which had been grazing invisibly on the other side of the dip flew up into the middle distance, creating this beautiful dissolving swirlingness across the sky. Having chimped the result the lyrics above came into my head and I knew immediately that this was a perfect showcase for "A Pillow of Winds"

Over here, we call that a crow marriage. Such a beautifull countryside, well groomed, and captured. Vµ

Splendid late afternoon light and the birds give the whole scene a moody feel. I have to say it reminded me of 'Learning to fly' - Into the distance, a ribbon of black stretched to the point of no turning back. A flight of fancy on a windswept field standing alone my senses reeled. Big vote!
