7th - Underneath

Chedworth Roman Villa, Glos. view map

The hypocaust at Chedworth Roman villa - quite literally under the residents' feet! The photo is of the pilæ which supported the floor above the heated void underneath.

I'm doubly chuffed with this pic - not just because of the underneathness of the subject, but because (I didn't know until now) 'hypo' is the Greek prefix for underneath or below :o)...how on the money is that?? :o))

Good feeling of underneath, ancient roman villa in Scotland? Gosh, the must have conquered all back then! They also had very sophisticated heating systems! Good find!
