Mattie Earp's Grave

Off Silver King Mine Road in Superior

Wyatt Earp's common-law wife, Celia Blaylock, died after drinking a lethal dose of laudanum and alcohol.
Born in 1850 and died in 1888, she is buried in the Old Pinal City Cemetery near Superior.

The grave was a little hard to find since the cemetery is not marked and the dirt roads are aplenty in this silver mining country.
You might want to stop for lunch at the delightful Cafe Piedra Roja on Main Street and get a map from the friendly owner. He can also direct you to places to look for Apache Tears.

Hi Lana,
Thanks so much for sharing your family history with us. Your family relationship and connection makes this photo much more meaningful.
Have you visited her gravesite?
If I find any information, I'll be sure to pass it on to you.

Hello. My Mother, Nola Blaylock Dillon, was a relative of Celia (Mattie) Blaylock. I believe Mattie was a first cousin of Mom's Grandfather. I was told nothing of this as I grew up, probably because my Mom (and maybe the rest of her family) was embarrassed by Mattie being such a "colorful" character. I, however feel she was very interesting, and can only think how hard her life must have been, due maybe to the choices she made, but also due to how hard life generally was at that time and place. I have minimal information about her in a family history book, but I would like to know more. Could someone please recommend a source that would reveal the most true facts about her life? Thank you very much.
