Every March a re-enactment of the skirmish at Picacho Peak is held at the park. On April 15, 1862 a Union force attacked a Confederate scouting party. At the end of the 1 1/2 hour skirmish, 3 Union soldiers lay dead.
This battle is generally considered the most westerly one of the Civil War and had an impact on the Confederate presence in the Tucson area.
