As you walk along the trail you will come upon Fort Bowie Cemetery. The wooden grave signs are copies of the originals based on photographs taken back in the late 1800's. Most of the soldiers' bodies have been removed and reburied in San Francisco's National Cemetery.
Geronimo's young son still rests here.
Geronimo himself died while a prisoner at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 17 February 1909.
He dictated his autobiography, which is still in print, to S.S. Barrett.
