Established on leased land of the Tohono O'Odham, Kitt Peak was established in 1958. It currently houses 3 major nighttime telescopes, 2 radio telescopes, 19 optical telescopes, and a solar telescope. Plans to expand the facilities have been meeting opposition from the Tohono O'Odham who consider this site very sacred.
Visitors are welcome and can even sign up to use the telescopes.
