This is one of the older remolded casino-hotels. It first opened on July 2, 1958. Howard Hughes tried to buy it in 1966 but was blocked due to possible violation of anit-trust law. It's had connections in the past to the mob and in 1984 the Nevada Gaming Commission levied its highest fine in the state ($3,000,000) against the resort for skimming.
Wayne Newton signed an exclusive contract to perform here for $25,000,000 a year.
