Mission Espada Aqueduct

Mission Road, San Antonio, Texas

Between 1719 and 1740 the Spanish built a system for irrigating the lands around San Antonio. One of the impressive structures they built which is still in use is the aqueduct over Piedras Creek. Water runs over the top of this structure to fields as it has for 250 years making it the oldest Spanish water system in the country.
In 1965 it was declared a national historical landmark.
