Eyes of the Army

Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista

This bronze statue dedicated to the Apache Scouts shows a scout and a cavalry officer during the period of the Apache Wars.
The Apache were permanently reassigned to Fort Huachuca in 1922. The last scout retired there in 1947.
Fort Huachuca, founded in 1877, holds a unique place in American history as it is the only active fort that saw service during the Apache Wars.
